The Filter Economy
There is a whole slew of new companies that act as filters sitting atop the web as a whole and the social web more specifically and are beginning what I call the filter economy. The similarities to Jeff Jarvis’ link economy are not coincidence. Some of these companies are services, some are tools, others are presentation layers. What they have in common is serving a purpose similar to that of a news editor: weeding through a mass of content to expose what’s relevant to a particular consumer.
