Listening in on DC

DC is a great place for sound-hearing. I didn't say sight-seeing because I use other orifices to take in the city. I've heard incredible concerts, listened to remarkable speeches, heard conversations you won't hear elsewhere, and enjoyed eavesdropping on all of you. And I do mean all -- I worked at the NSA for four years, and have honed my listening skills to such an extent that I can hear a tree fall in Rock Creek Park even when no one is around. I'm a cellist with several community orchestras. And my day job is being a graphic recorder or Public Listener. I make murals during meetings, like flip-charts on steroids, that capture the conversations and make them visible. Deep engaged listening with full attention is the way our country will move forward. As part of the whole, each of us is incomplete without listening to each other. Put another way, when we truly hear each other we become whole.
