Governance by website: democracy without individual authorities
As Web 2.0 technologies mature, people are beginning to explore the prospect of applying them to human governance systems. Already, existing political processes are being heavily influenced by web-based community input. The next logical development is for web technologies to begin actually performing governance functions, allowing everyone a chance to participate directly in the management of the communities in which they participate. This presentation explores some existing trends in this arena and details the Metagovernment project, which is actively building web technologies intended to completely replace existing governance systems.
