Dekunle Somade

Jusitce for D.C. youth

Regarded as one of the most powerful cities in the world, the minority youth of the District have yet to be given the proper means both through the educational system as well as in the local community to have a fighting chance against the societal barriers that have already been placed in front of them since the time of birth. These poverty stricken youth have been forced into an unending cycle involving lack of parental and educational supports , unprotected sex, selling of drugs, and violence, thus leading to the incarceration of many of the city's youth. As problems similar to this concerning our youth continue to worsen it is our obligation as residents of this city that we love and care for so much to be informed on issues arising in our community and take an active step in becoming part of the solution and as oppose to the problem.

About Dekunle Somade:

Currently studying Supply Chain management at the University of Maryland at College Park, Dekunle is an involved student both as an entrepreneur and with issues concerning his community. As owner and founder of his own start-up internet marketplace quirkly.com and as former chair and current member of the tutoring committee at Justice For D.C. Youth (JDCY), an organization which advocates for a fair and more effective juvenile justice system in the District of Columbia, Dekunle has been able to stay active in both while still being able to partake in the normal activities of a regular college student.
