Pattern Recognition and Spimewatch: Living in the unevenly distributed future-present

Scifi great William Gibson famously said that "the future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed." The evolution of that future can be seen in real-time all around those lucky enough to walk in the sprawling megalopolis of the present, as buzzing smartphones, QR codes and interactive surfaces increasingly can be seen on the streets. Navigating the virtual layers of smarter cities now includes virtual layers, an augmented reality that bridges the meatspace and cyberspace, annotations to our visual world. This talk will riff on pattern recognition in the near future, as hyper-connected citizens find new ways to collaborate, communicate and create in the Information Age.
