The (REAL) Field of Dreams

Slide 1: Close your eyes. Think of your greatest sports memory...hitting the winning home run, sinking the game winning shot....setting the record on the track. Now imagine that experience never happened.

Slide 2: So is the case for over 13,000 children with disabilities living in Washington DC (Similar number for the 5 surrounding counties) who don't have the most basic access to athletics and recreation opportunities.

Slide 3: There are not nearly enough adaptive programs available to service the adaptive atheltic requirements of this isolated community. - Many children and families fail to realize and find the offerings that are happening just neighborhoods away.

Slide 4 : Local childrens charity,Dreams for Kids is chaging this with Extreme Recess. An innovative Adaptive Athletics program that brings children together for one of a kind adaptive atheltic events (with the naitonals, wizards, mystics and capitals etc.) and also connects programmatic providers in the DMV with the families they want to serve and vice versa.

slide 5: Story about Trey, a child who has come through our clinics and through his aprticipation linked up with several other organizations that he works with consistently, doubling the amount of access to atheltics and recreation he received before Extreme Recess.

Sports are vital for children with disabilities the same way they are for able bodies kids. Everyone can get involved with this equality movement and everyone can make a difference.
