Everything I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Improv Class

Improv is not so much about comedy as it is about storytelling--making characters and scenes out of a tiny nugget of inspiration. Some of the greatest comedians of our time got their start as part of an improv group, and I think that's because they developed a strong sense of how to tell a story.

As a writer and an online communications strategist, my life revolves around storytelling. But really, all of our lives do. We're all constantly crafting the stories of our organizations, clients, candidates, our own lives. No matter who you are or what you do, the lessons of improv apply to you. In this presentation, I'll talk about some of the methods improv performers use to make up stories on the fly, and how these building blocks train your brain to communicate.

About Elena Berger:

As Senior Internet Strategist at Amplify Public Affairs, I specialize in running great online advocacy and fundraising campaigns, from websites and emails to marketing and social media, and everything in between. I believe that my technology geek side and my creative thinker side can peacefully co-exist. In my off-time I write short fiction and watch way too many movies. Basically I'm obsessed with how people talk to each other.
