Jon Stewart Doesn't Need to Door Knock: A 21st Century Movement-Building Model that intgrates Social, Media & Social Media

In this presentation I will discuss why Coalition-based Movements like Obama For America and Tea Party succeed, from creative branding and proactive messaging to customized community-building Meetups to MyBO/Facebook/Twitter outreach, through developing a “following” of buzz and relationships to recruit for activities like political action, door-to-door contact and fundraising. I hope to work together as a community to use these lessons to develop a permanent bottom-up program to influence our political and civic life.
